I will always put that link at the top of the journal entries from now on. It is the link to our rules and submission, also has links to our admins, the petition, the news article, and some of journal entries.

Ok, so I'm going to put this up one more time, for clarity. This community is not about removing ads from anywhere on DA. This community is about the repositioning of the ads that are currently in the non-subscriber personal and favorites galleries. We don't want anything removed from DA.

As I (~Luscara) have stated numerous times I believe that advertising is both necessary and beneficial. I believe that the current ads are invasive, and demoralizing for those of us who can't afford, or don't want subscriptions at this time. If at anytime you see the words remove, removal, or otherwise around this community please either tell me to change it, or simply say something about it, because it's not about removal, it about repositioning....

When I say I'm against gallery ads, I mean I'm against their current position, please before you attack this community or anyone attached to it, read the entire story... basically just read the news article... or the petition statement.

or ask them to include a link to your journal.... they tend to support this kind of thing

I've noticed those annoying ads as well. I don't keep normal hours either, so I relate completely. I sent a message to $anna about the voice ads. I think they've actually stopped.
I can say this, don't let the greed win. They needed to consider the implications of this before they did it. There were better solutions, and better ways of going about this. I have been doing the same thing with my gallery, because I'm a control freak! Everything has its place, and if you mess with my control I get very disoriented.

Alright. I'm starting to go bloody insane with these gallery adds. At first they didn't bother me, honestly, I was alright with it. But I kept deleting art in my gallery.... And I couldn't figure out why. True, I did have a lot of old crap in there, and it felt good to dispose of it, but the other day I figured out that it was because my gallery felt cluttered and my OCD was kicking in hardXcore because I hate it when things look cluttered. I can't even sleep if my bed isn't made befoe I sleep in it or my floor isn't clean. These adds are litterally triggering me to delete art work because I can't handle the cutter.

Not to mention, has anyone but me noticed the new adds with sound? I don't keep normal hours and I live with other people so I hate it when I have my computer volume turned extremely low and my mates can still hear "Congradulations!" and such and such. I started muting my computer at night, ich really isn't an inconvieniance, but still.

I don't use this site as a professional portfolio... I use SAATCHI for that, they have ad revenue but they didn't put the ads the galleries... If you don't like what I'm saying then why read it? You don't agree, you made that point and then insulted people, good for you. People like you make me angry, people who follow the status quo and tell the rest that we should because it makes YOUR life easier.
Those of us who have signed the petition just want a chance to be heard, no one was asked, and if this is an arts community, then we feel that the art should come first. I'm sorry you seem to think we're all stupid, but I'm going to keep trying to get a response about this, because I'm not going to pay for a service with a company that has invaded what I consider sacred space.
You've made your point, we're all stupid, and we're all apparently a**holes, because we have a descending opinion and can't afford to buy a subscription. Good job!

Honestly! The saddest part is the link underneath that reads "Remove ads: deviantART subscription". They're trying to BRIBE us? When you think about it, the ads are everywhere. They don't need to be in the gallery, too. So it basically looks like they're just trying to get us to pay up.

Obviously dA needs money to run, but sticking ads right in the heart of the site - members' galleries - is not the way to do it.

Honestly, if you're looking for a way to show people your portfolio, it's a terrible idea to use deviantART anyway. Build your own site, or use a sleeker portfolio site. DA isn't professional in that sense, and if you're just bitching about annoying ad placement, and it getting in your way while browsing, who cares? I don't see how it's such a big deal if everyone on dA has to deal with it anyway. Is it REALLY getting in the way that much to completely ruin your experience? Buy a subscription, get over it. That's what they're there for.

You really need to read more closely. Also maybe read my personal journal... ~Luscara, it's not about removing the ads from DA it's about changing the placement. I, better than most, understand the need for advertising. The problem is the position, because I'm not going to subscribe to a company that puts a block ad in the middle of my gallery for their revenue purposes.
Read everything before coming to a conclusion, and I won't leave the site because of the fact that I can't erase my copyrighted name from their data base... which is something else I would like to see remedied, but first I'd like my gallery back, with banner ads at the top or bottom, or both... read the news article.

It's not ads in general we don't like. I'm happy to accept that dA needs advertising revenue to keep the service free- hell, I even click on the odd banner ad once in a while. What we object to is the placement of these particular ads smack bang in the middle of the space that is supposed to be for our art. And no, I will not subscribe or shut up. There's a recent journal post by one of the ad staff that talks about the sense of community here and how it's so important and makes the site what it is. If they mean that, they can bloody well LISTEN to the community - non paying as well as paying members.

Any website on the net has ads, I don't understand what the use in bitching is. They offer you an option to get rid of them: Subscribe. It's really not that much money, and you get more features anyway. This movement won't go anywhere. The site makes a lot of money, from subscriptions as well as ads and prints... you really think they're going to give up millions of dollars because people don't like seeing ads? Since when has anyone liked seeing ads?

Ridding your galleries of artwork isn't going to change dA's thoughts about using ads. You'll be replaced by thousands of other people in no time at all, and they'll make even more money. The site won't miss you.

Now, I really would like to see how this goes from here...

One suggestion: you might want to set the homepage of this deviantART account to the online petition that you guys have started.
